Welcome to the Colorado Elk Breeders Association
Welcome
North American elk, also called wapiti, are among the most majestic animals on the continent. Elk once ranged over all of the United States (except Florida), Canada and northern Mexico. Today, the largest elk herds in the country are found in Colorado, numbering approximately 286,000.
Elk and man have interacted since the earliest human habitation of the continent. Elk bone and antler have been found in some of the oldest human inhabited sites in North America, and accounts of the early European explorers mention the strong impression these proud animals made on them.
While the ranching of elk in North America goes back to the mid-nineteenth century, it has grown tremendously over the past 25 years. In 1988, Colorado elk ranchers formed the Colorado Elk Breeders Association (CEBA) to promote elk ranching in Colorado as an agricultural pursuit. CEBA was one of the first organizations in North America for the elk industry.
Active membership in CEBA is open to anyone who owns elk. Associate membership is open for any interested persons. For general information click here to contact us.
